Whatever happens on the final day of the season, Sheffield Wednesday is heading for a busy summer.

It’s been reported up to 20 players could be leaving in the summer with many of them out of contract this summer. This includes club legend Barry Bannan.

Speaking to The Star club captain Bannan said: “If it’s down to me then of course, I’ve made it quite clear that I’d like to stay here and finish my career here – that’s never changed and never will. We’ll find out in the next couple of weeks who is staying and going, but I think I’ll be here for a tenth season.”

I think Bannan deserves to finish his career at Wednesday, the club, fan base, and the whole community have taken to Bannan since he joined the club and he has had some wonderful years at the club. Whatever happens on Saturday 4th of May, I truly believe Bannan will be here next season.

Yes, he is coming to the end of his career and he might only have a couple (at a push) of seasons in him but I think he is part of Danny Rohl’s short-term plans. Bannan still has quality and that does show in matches but I don’t feel he can play every game, with the way Danny wants to play but Bannan is good for the team, the club, and the community.

I also don’t think Bannan wants to move on at this stage in his career, it would either be a step down to league one or one of the teams coming up to the championship and when you look at it in that way, what would be the point in moving, he gets game time, he is the club captain, he gets on with the manager, the owner, everyone around the club and more importantly the fan base love him.

Whatever happens, I believe Bannan will be in the squad next season.
