The news of a potential Engagement Panel meeting between Sheffield Wednesday supporters’ groups and Dejphon Chansiri has caused a fresh wave of debate across social media — particularly on X (formerly Twitter).

Earlier this week, an email invitation was sent to members of the Engagement Panel regarding a possible meeting, believed to be held via Zoom. The message was quickly shared by several supporters’ groups on X, prompting mixed reactions from fans.

Supporters’ Groups React

Following the news, different fan groups have shared their positions on attending such a meeting:

  • The Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust has publicly stated its own demands for any meeting to take place, setting out clear expectations for transparency and accountability.
  • The Armed Forces Owls have also voiced their thoughts, sharing their stance on how any meeting should be approached.
  • The SWFC Women’s Supporters Group has made its position known as well, encouraging constructive dialogue between fans and the club.

With multiple groups expressing varied opinions, it’s clear that there isn’t a united approach among the fanbase on how to handle these talks.

Our Take

If any supporters’ groups want to attend the Engagement Panel meeting, we don’t see an issue with it.

For weeks — even months — fans have been calling for Chansiri to speak publicly or for the club to engage directly with supporters. Now there’s an opportunity to join a meeting with him, potentially via Zoom, so why wouldn’t you accept that chance?

Of course, there’s every possibility the meeting could prove to be a waste of time. Chansiri may avoid giving any real answers or meaningful updates. But the beauty of an online meeting is simple — if, after 10 or 20 minutes, it’s clear there’s no progress, you can simply log off and move on.

It’s no secret that Chansiri is difficult to deal with; several members of supporters’ groups have publicly said they wouldn’t speak with him again. We understand why many feel this could be futile. However, given the meeting format, there’s little to lose in joining and testing the waters.

At The Daily Wednesday, we’d welcome the opportunity to be directly involved in any meeting or to have direct access to Chansiri. Like many, we have questions we’d love to ask — and every supporters’ group will approach those questions in their own way, which is perfectly fine.

What Happens Next

Whether this meeting goes ahead — especially given the demands set out by the Supporters’ Trust — remains to be seen. Right now, everything is in limbo. We’ll continue to follow developments closely and keep you updated.
