Danny Röhl Set to Walk Away — A Heartbreaking End for a Manager Who Deserved Better

By now, you’ve probably seen the news doing the rounds on social media: Danny Röhl has told Sheffield Wednesday he’s leaving.

A meeting was scheduled to take place between Röhl and Dejphon Chansiri in the coming week — it was meant to be a conversation about the future of the club, the summer transfer plans, and whether Röhl could get the reassurances he needed to push for the playoffs next season.

Instead, that meeting will now likely serve as nothing more than a formality — the place where Röhl’s resignation is finalised.

Sources close to the club say Röhl no longer believes that Chansiri will provide the backing required to take the next step. The funding, the infrastructure, the strategy — none of it seems to be there. And without that, he feels he has no choice but to walk away.

A Manager Who Performed Miracles

Let’s not forget what Danny Röhl has achieved at this club. When he took over, Wednesday were in absolute freefall — bottom of the table, no momentum, no identity. He steadied the ship, reconnected with the fans, and got the players believing again.

But he’s been doing it under enormous pressure.

From day one, he’s had to juggle countless off-field issues: lack of a footballing structure, an outdated training ground, no real commercial department, and a first-team squad in desperate need of proper investment.

And let’s be honest: he’s had to do all this while working for one of the most dysfunctional owners in English football.

The Breaking Point

We’ve heard whispers for weeks now that Röhl was growing frustrated. He’d laid out plans for the summer. He and his coaching team had mapped out recruitment targets and pre-season schedules. But it’s all been scrapped.

Why? Because it’s believed that Chansiri has gone back on his word. Promises of improvement — whether it be the stadium, staff, or budget — seem to have evaporated.

There’s even talk that the owner can no longer fund the first team at all.

So Röhl has done what many feared he would: walk away, not because he wants to, but because he has to.

A Bitter Goodbye

Danny has spent most of this season thousands of miles away from his family, dedicating himself to a club that many would have avoided. That kind of commitment deserved better.

Unfortunately, it looks like this story will end not with a fairytale — but with a manager walking away because the one person in control is once again holding the club back.

We await the official club statement, which is expected after the meeting between Röhl and Chansiri. But don’t expect a U-turn. This feels done.

And it hurts.
