As tensions continue to rise at Hillsborough, signs are beginning to emerge that the unity among Sheffield Wednesday fans is starting to shift. What started as a united front against Dejphon Chansiri’s ownership is now showing cracks — and the events before and during the Coventry game may have been the tipping point.
Overview
Sheffield Wednesday’s Championship campaign has been overshadowed by unrest, off-the-pitch drama, and increasing anger from fans over how the club is being run. While protests have largely been peaceful and organised, the recent pitch invasion by a small number of fans has ignited debate and raised questions over how the fanbase continues its resistance.
The protest before and during the Coventry City game, which caused the match to be delayed, brought national headlines — not just because of what happened, but because of how it divided supporters. Some backed the action, others condemned it, and a growing number are starting to point fingers in new directions — including at the players.

Our Take
Don’t know if anyone else is feeling this, but it kinda feels like the mood is changing within the fans. It’s very obvious the players will not do anything within any game, which is totally fine and if we are honest, there was never a chance the players were going to do any type of strike once the league & cup games got going.
So far, the fan’s have been pretty much united in the protests that have happened but once it was announced by a group of fans, that a pitch invasion was going to happen, the fans were split once again. It was mostly against the pitch invasion in my opinion, but today against Coventry City it went ahead and while less than 100 people joined in, it feels like the fan base are once again divided in how to move forward with protests.
On social media, fans have been turning on each other about the pitch invasion — with some pointing out that the players (mostly Bannan) tried to stop the protest before it had a chance to get going, and some fans now starting to turn on the players a little bit.
For me, it was only a matter of time before stuff like this started to happen. It’s fine at the start, but the longer this goes on and the more times we hear the same ‘buzz words’ from Pedersen before & after every game, the worse things will get. People can only take so much and it’s starting to feel like fans are at breaking point — or maybe this is the breaking point.
Unfortunately, the only way to stop all of this is with Chansiri being removed from the club. Not just Chansiri, but the Chansiri family and Amadeu Paixao. Until that actually happens we, as fans, are just going to have to hang on, hold our nerve and hope that something really is going on in the background to buy the club or get Chansiri removed.
As protests continue and frustrations boil over, will the fanbase stay united — or are we beginning to see a new split in opinion?
