Despite weeks of fan protests, mounting media attention, and growing uncertainty over the club’s future, Dejphon Chansiri shows no signs of stepping aside at Sheffield Wednesday. New reports suggest the chairman intends to keep control and push forward, even with administration looming.
Overview
After a turbulent few months on and off the pitch, the hope among fans was that change might be coming. Reports of interest from American investor John Textor, plus speculation about multiple other parties, raised expectations of a potential takeover. However, recent articles indicate Chansiri remains unmoved and plans to continue as owner despite severe financial challenges, player unrest, and widespread calls for him to sell.
This comes at a time when football pundits and financial experts are openly questioning whether Wednesday can avoid administration without a major change at the top. Former Sunderland investor Charlie Methven has even commented on the IFR’s future role and how it could apply to clubs like Sheffield Wednesday, but that is still months away.

- Former Sunderland figure Charlie Methven weighed in, highlighting the role the IFR might play in future cases like Wednesday’s.
- Investor John Textor has publicly confirmed talks with Chansiri but admits the situation is “complicated.”
- Trust in Chansiri appears broken — from both fans and possibly even within the club’s own staff.
Our Take
We’ve been hearing stuff like this for the last couple of months if we’re honest. Chansiri doesn’t seem to want to let go of the club, for whatever reason.
No one seems to be able to get a straight answer out of him as to why he’s so unwilling to sell or what he’s really trying to achieve by staying. It might make sense if the club were thriving financially or held serious value, but that’s clearly not the case anymore.
If you speak to fans, it’s clear Chansiri can’t even step foot in Hillsborough anymore. All trust has been lost, and it’s hard to see how he ever rebuilds that. Now it’s starting to look like the staff and even some of the players are beginning to lose confidence in him too. Cracks are appearing, and they’re becoming public, which hasn’t really happened before.
With Chansiri carrying on as if nothing’s wrong, administration is starting to feel inevitable. Yes, it might finally remove him from the club, but it would likely send us back down to League One, and that’s a painful route to take, especially when we’ve just clawed our way back up.
Still, there might be a glimmer of hope. John Textor’s name is back in the conversation, and he’s not the only one. If reports are to be believed, Chansiri is in talks with three or four interested parties. So while on the surface it feels like more of the same, behind the scenes, things might be shifting.
Chansiri appears to be digging his heels in, but will mounting pressure, a looming points deduction, or an irresistible offer finally push him to sell?
Let us know your thoughts, are we heading toward change, or is this more of the same?
